| Während meiner beiden Auslandssemester 2000/2001 in Schweden entstand die Idee eine Internetseite zu erstellen und dort ein paar Fotos einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen, schließlich war ich noch nie so lang aus Deutschland weg und es gab viele neue Eindrücke, die vermittelt werden wollten. Daher steht Luleå an erster Stelle, denn dort befindet sich die Universität, an der ich ein Jahr studiert habe. Glücklicherweise war ich motorisiert und somit gibt es auch einige Bilder aus der näheren Umgebung, wobei dies in diesem Teil der Welt auch mal ein paar hundert Kilometer dazwischen liegen können." |
| :: The idea of starting a webpage came to my mind during my stay in Sweden in 2000/2001. Since I was far from home this was the best way to transmit all the new impressions to my family and friends. Luleå stays in first place, because the university I visited for one year is located right there. Fortunately I called a little car my own and was able to explore the closer surroundings as well, although this might mean to travel several hundrets of kilometers in this part of the world. |

Luleå mit seinen ca. 80000 Einwohnern ist wahrscheinlich das nördlichste kulturelle Zentrum, das es in Schweden gibt. Der Polarkreis ist zwar noch ein paar Kilometer weit weg, aber die Entfernungen schrumpfen doch beträchtlich im Vergleich zu Mitteleuropa. Hier geht es aber im wesentlichen um die Leute, die ich dort kennengelernt habe. Ganz sicher sind nicht alle mit Bildern vertreten, aber das heißt nicht, dass ich sie vergessen habe.
:: Luleå has app. 80000 inhabitants and is probably the most northern cultural centre in Sweden. Although a trip to the artic circle still takes a few kilometers it is very close as distances shrink in this part of the world compared to Central Europe. But the focus lies on the people that I met during my time in Luleå. Most likely not everybody is in the pictures, but that does not mean that I have forgotten about them. - Jokkmokk

Dies ist die Flagge der samischen Urbevölkerung in Nordskandinavien. Und Jokkmokk, eine kleine Stadt oder ein größeres Dorf, ist eines der kulturellen Zentren, in dem die Traditionen noch lebendig sind. Daher gibt es auch ein überaus interessantes Museum über die Samen, das ich mehrmals besucht habe. Zu den etwas ausgefalleneren, aber auch bekannteren Traditionen zählt der Jahrmarkt in Jokkmokk Ende Januar oder Anfang Februar. Ich bin mir nicht mehr ganz so sicher, aber auf jeden Fall ist er zu einer Zeit, in der Temperaturen von -40°C keine Überraschungen darstellen.
:: This is the flag of the samish native inhabitants of northern Scandinavia. And the little town or big village of Jokkmokk is one the cultural centres where the traditions are still present nowadays. Hence, there is a really interesting museum about the samish people in Jokkmokk which I visited several times. A quite unusual but well known tradition is the annual fair which takes place in the end of January or the beginning of February. I am not so sure about the time anymore, but it is certainly a time of the year when temperatures of -40°C are nothing surprising. - Kebnekaise 2000

Der Kebnekaise ist der höchste Berg in Schweden. Und obwohl er nur etwas mehr als 2000 m hoch ist, gibt es dort keine Bäume, sondern nur Schnee und Gestein. Da es in dieser Gegend natürlich keine Straßen für Autos gibt, müssen mehrere Kilometer zu Fuß zurückgelegt werden. Und ich muss sagen, dass ich nach der Drei-Tages-Wanderung zum Kebnekaise so geschafft war, wie selten in meinem Leben.
:: Kebnekaise is the highest mountain in Sweden. He is only a little bit more than 2000 m in altitude, but there are no trees anymore, only snow and rocks. Since no streets for cars exist in this region you have to walk several kilometers before you reach the mountain. And I must confess after the three days hiking trip to Kebnekaise I was exhausted in way that happens only rarely in my live. - Dundret

Wie man schon auf dem Bild erkennen kann, ist Dundret ein kleines Skigebiet im Norden von Schweden. Es ist nicht besonders aufregend, bietet aber alles, was eine alpiner Skianfänger wie ich so benötigt.
:: As you can see in the picture Dundret is a small skiing area in northern Sweden. It is nothing really special, but an alpine skiing amateur like me can find everything he needs. - Vassijaure

Vassijaure ist ein wirklich kleiner Ort mitten im Nirgendwo Nordschwedens. Im wesentlichen besteht er aus einem (Güter-)Bahnhof und drei weiteren Häusern. Aber es ist ein sehr guter Platz um die Mitternachtssonne zu beobachten, wenn man zur richtigen Jahreszeit dort ist."
:: Vassijaure is a small place in the middle of nowhere in northern Sweden. It essentially consists of a (goods) train station surrounded by three other houses. But if you are there at the right time of the year, then it's a great place to watch the midnight sun. - Kebnekaise 2001

Mein zweiter Ausflug zum Kebnekaise führte nicht auf die Spitze des Berges, sondern bestand aus einer Umrundung desselben. Und prinzipiell ist es auch eine gute Idee Ende Juni in dieser Gegend wandern zu gehen, da es 24 Stunden am Tag nicht dunkel wird und man somit kein künstliches Licht benötigt. Allerdings ist der Winter zu dieser Jahreszeit besonders in etwas höheren Lagen noch immer sehr präsent, was das Wandern ohne Schneeausrüstung doch recht mühselig werden läßt."
:: My second trip to Kebnekaise did not lead to the summit of the mountain, but was a trip around. And in principle it is a good idea to go hiking in these regions in the end of June since the daylight last for 24 hours and no artificial light is required. Though, the winter is still present especially if you go to some higher places. And the snow that you will find there makes hiking a little bit more troublesome if you have no appropriate equipment.
